Readers Book Reviews - Murder in Cheesman Park

I hate you, Ken, you contribute to my insomnia. I'm actually sleepless in Salt Lake. I got your novel at 3:00 PM, I opened it to read the first page but read on. I didn't notice the time until 11:35 and I had 135 pages left. I nodded off but woke at 4:10 to find out what else happened to Greg. I read until 12:20 when I finished. I missed breakfast but darn it, I was amazed becaused you included every thought and emotion a person can feel. How did you encompass this much into 284 pages? I'm going to buy nine more copies and give them away to my friends and family for Christmas Gifts. But you have to sign each copy, OK? Shiela Davis

This book is a really good read! The characters are complex and interesting. Yet a reader can identify with each character (I felt like I might even know some of them). What a fresh approach to women by an author! He shows a true respect for women in his writing. As in the Grand Scam, Murder in Cheesman Park takes a reader on a fun journey from Colorado to Mexico and places in between. This fast-paced, plot-twisting mystery is a quick cover-to-cover read. I will be anxiously waiting for the next book. Sandy Angus, Arizona.

Ken, you missed your calling. You should have been a forensic specialist or a medical examiner, because your novel uses all of these technics to find the true killer. Good job, send us some more stories of this interesting family. Jack Willis, Murray, Utah

I loved the romance you wrote about between Greg and Kim. That little boy must be cute as a pin. Keep it up Ken. I really do enjoy the characters you write about. Jarol Jacobsen, Salt Lake.

You should be a best selling author because you have a real flare for the written word. Love the characters you create and would really like to see a picture of Marilyn. Kevin Jensen. Salt Lake.

Thanks for the novel, I set it aside and didn't read it for five weeks, but I picked it up last Saturday and read the first chapter, but by the fifth chapter I was lost in the characters because things were happening so fast. So I went back to chapter two and wrote down the characters names etc., by this time it was midnight so I went to bed but couldn't stop reading. My eyes gave out at four AM, but I was back to it at nine. I finished it Sunday, but missed church. I actually felt I just ran a race, your stories tire me out. Emmitt Smith.

I really liked the story , but I couldn't get into it until Greg went to Mexico, then I couldn't put it down, I read the rest in one day. Great job, I like your understanding of people and what their motivations really are. Zack Hinckley Kearns Utah.

It took me five days to read your novel and I really enjoyed it. Marvelous story and I liked your description of Greg learning to fly, but you know that's what I like to do. Jeff Thole, Salt Lake.

Receiving the complimentary copy of Murder In Cheesman Park was a pleasant surprise and it is a real winner! I read it almost in one sitting! The action flows with virtual seamless transition through the varied locales and the scenes and characters are well drawn and believable. Thank you for such a great read! Clara Bradfute, Docent Las Vegas Art Museum.

I am a docent with the Las Vegas Art Museum. What a nice surprise when we were given copies of your latest book Murder in Cheesman Park. I love mysteries and its always nice to have a new author to read.

I am a 61-year old white female, with a college master's degree in English, and you should know this before I make comments about your writing.

The book seems carefully plotted and ties all of the details together. And, like most mysteries it ends happily - for some reason the reader likes to believe anything can be resolved. The main character, Greg Forman, is a superhero and makes the reader want to believe that people like this really exist. His major flaw, picking rotten white women for partners, seems to be forgiven because he ultimately picks the untainted (sorta), uneducated, unspoiled Mexican madonna - Maria. Hmm. He even takes the "Son" into his life and promises him to be "the" father.

My main criticism is about the stilted dialogue. I think in real life most people speak with lots of contractions which makes a more informal method of speech than appears in the book. This caused me to be interrupted when I tried to get into the flow of the story.

Thank you for allowing me to email you with these views of the book. This is the first time I have ever been able to tell a writer some of my observations. Twilla A. McGlone.
